Films That Matter: I Am

Our current Film that Matters is the 2011 documentary “I Am.” This powerful and inspiration documentary comes from the director of Bruce Almighty, The Nutty Professor and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and features Desmond Tutu, Howard Zinn, Noam Chomsky, Lynne McTaggart, Coleman Barks and Thom Hartmann. This powerful film wrestles with the questions, Is this just who we are… are we basically just greedy, aggressive and violent creatures wreaking havoc on the planet and each other?  and What is humankind’s basic nature… Is the essential nature of humans to cooperate or to dominate?

We invite you to check out the trailer and if you’re interested click here to rent or buy the film on Amazon.

Loved the movie and would recommend it to anyone. I’ve seen it twice now and will probably watch it again. It has had a tremendous impact on my view of our world and the people in it. Something for everyone here!

I was particularly moved by Desmond Tutu’s simple analogy of attacking world hunger and other seemingly massive challenges the same way one eats an elephant, one small piece at a time. All of us have the ability to in some some small way, make our world a better place.

PS: It has also totally changed the way I communicate with yogurt!

    Mark,

First LOL…yogurt. Secondly, what real question do you hear being asked when the movie asks, “Are we meant to cooperate or dominate?”

I’ll hang up and take listen to your comments off the air.”
